The Family Umoja Recovery Services Program is designed to develop, coordinate and focus the appropriate resources to help the at-risk youth who face significant developmental challenges on a daily basis. The program is a multi-phased, community driven gang prevention and intervention effort program established in 2004 by its incorporator, The California Council on Youth, Inc. (CCOY). CCOY has been incorporated since 1975, and a 501(c)3 since 1993. California Council on Youth has been providing support services to the community in The South Los Angeles area since January 2004. Family Umoja, a subsidiary of California Council on Youth, Inc. links individuals with one on one mentors and tutors to assist the youth to achieve academic excellence and to empower youth to stay away from drugs and alcohol by providing assistance from people who care to improve the quality of their lives through networking to educate our youth regarding, scholastic education, drug abuse, gang activity, health education, HIV/AIDS and other public health issues. The intent of the program is designed to educate families and youth to develop their self-esteem; to perform community outreach to young at risk youth; to inform parents and youth regarding negative activity in their neighborhoods. |
